Good day!

I am Shellani B. Ortega a graduating student of Makati Science High School. I have read the poem of Rashid Peters from Sierra Leone. The poem was entitled "I Will Lay Down the Arms Now". Of all the poems that I have read I was very interested in Rashid's work. I was just surprised on how he constructed his poem. It was very realistic in a way because if you could only see the image that he was trying to describe, it was a very sad image. I was amazed on how he narrated the facts about a life of a person who has no other choice but to kill because of the pressure around him to do a "bad" thing until he became into it. But in the end he was sorry on what he has done. He was just pressured to do it!

Hello,

My name is Wileyda and I live in New York City, U.S.A. Don't you wish all the bad things could stop? I feel bad for the kids that are force to go to war. Why do the elder people do such things? I wish I could do something about it. How is your brothers and your family?

Wileyda, New York, NY, U.S.A.

To Whom it May Concern,

I have a child and it is imperative that guns stay out the hands of children all over the world. Why? Because the mess the world is in started from children with guns in their hands at about the civil war.My child means alot too me and I should hope yours means just as much. Put an end too the suffering and bad wa's in the hearts of soldiers and destroy all guns for our future sake.

Sincerely,

Anton J. H.

P.S. Think about it.

Hi Rashid,

Forgive me for not writing before. My name is Jillian. I am 17 yrs old and I wouldn't imagine going through what those kids went through and not give up, and you writing that inspiring strong poem about it makes you a very brave human being. I ha d no idea there are still people alive to tell their stories and you should be glad you are one of those to live and tell your story, I would love to read more amazing stories. I'll be waiting for your reply ..............

Hello.

We are two students from Colombia that need to do a research on CHILD SOLDIERS. We need lots of information on what it is, how is it being treated, and how are the lives of the children that are trained?

Thank you very much for your help.

Carolina and Alejandra in Colombia

Dear Andrew, Bill and the Child Soldier Team.

I had the pleasure of visiting your fantastic web page this week. It is outstanding and I have featured it on the opening page of our school website to highlight it to the students.

I hope to use it in the curriculum with our students before the end of the year. The illustrations were so moving.

» RESPONSE FROM ANDREW

Hi Jo,

There is nothing more soothing to the heart than getting such a supportive message from a friend and colleague. I am already familiar with your kindness and good work Jo, and think it has always been a motiivation for the work we do.

Your students work is very welcome, and we find it so uplifting to get that kind of partnership. I hope that these students, mine and those of yours, will begin to share their thoughts on the issue of the child soldier, and help to shed light on this gross human rights abuse.

In appreciation,

Andrew Benson Greene Jr., Freetown, Sierra Leone

Hello Andrew, Bill, Mohammed, and all,

It is so wonderful to see that you have been able to make such progress and design such a moving website. Many thanks to Bill from iEARN Canada. I will be signing on with a few of my students shortly.

More later, Lynne, From Scotland

Hi, My name is Danna. I live in New York and I wanted to know exactly how you felt during the time when you were re-united with family, not just that it was boring, but how it felt to see the mother and father you had lost when you were so young (12). Was there any other hatered or unknown love you felt for them after all you have been through the years they weren't there for you.

Was your reaction to them them same as if you went to collage and haven't seen them or were you hesitiant, if you were i understand completely it probably was very difficult for you. I want to know (if it's ok with you) WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD LIKE THE SOUND OF WAR AND GUNS RATHER THAN THE SOUNDS OF YOUR MOTHER AND FATHER?

Please respond.

love always,

Truly:
Danna (15)
